RM2,000 fine for SpidermanKUALA LUMPUR: French “Spiderman”
Robert Alain Philippe paid his RM2,000 fine and walked out of the magistrate’s court here with a promise never to climb another building in this city again.
His lawyer Wong Kian Kheong told the court that Philippe, 47, had decided not to climb any more buildings in the city after today, so there was no fear of him repeating his crime. (i think he was ready with his lawyer and there are no more taller building in Malaysia unless our beloved PM decided to build another taller building in the world?)
Philippe had earlier pleaded guilty to criminal trespass of the Petronas Twin Towers, a crime punishable under Section 447 of the Penal Code, when he climbed the building located at Jalan Ampang here on Tuesday.
He scaled Tower 2 of the Twin Towers at about 8.30am in his third attempt to conquer the building and succeeded about two hours later.
He first tried to scale the building on March 20, 1997, and made a second unsuccessful attempt in 2007.
Both times he reached the 60th floor before being intercepted by authorities, but was freed without a charge. Yesterday Philippe was brought into the dock dressed in dark grey pants and a teal jacket.
Wong, in pleading for a lower sentence, told the court that Philippe was only climbing out of passion.
“Everyone has a passion and my client’s passion is to climb tall buildings.
“He is not doing so for profit or publicity, he has caused no injury to the complainant, nor has he caused any damage to the property.
“He has a ticket to fly back to Paris on Sept 7,” he said.
He added that Philippe, a father of three children aged 16, 19 and 22, had also climbed for charity previously and had trained Malaysian firefighters.
He asked the court to take into consideration the fact that his client was certified as 60% disabled by French medical authorities, as a result of his climbing accidents.
Magistrate Siti Shakirah Mokhtarudin, in handing down her ruling, said no custodial sentence was imposed as he was a first-time offender, and fined him RM2,000 in default two months imprisonment.
so RM 2,000 penalty is it too little?
just to give a lesson to people it is not legal to simply climb other people's building
