was discussing with a friend regarding earth hour and the post i post in my blog.
and he told me why should we care about offing the light for one hour.

actually i guess it is not about whether you should off the light for one hour
it's about whether you still concern about the place you are staying which is the earth.
you need not really off all the lights in your house and stay in the dark
just off those unnecessary light, like those big companies did.
i.e. starbucks, GSC and stuff..

last time i do practice offing the lights when we are not in the cubical where we are out for lunch.
i think this is a good habbit which i see my old group members are still practicing it till today.
sometimes people ask why we off the lights in our group.
i guess is just a habbit cos we were told that the management can actually measure the usage of power of your group if you did not switch off the lights.

i guess i should ask my current group member to off the lights when they go off for lunch as well.
to save the electricity for an hour during lunch hour.
i think a small deed can really make a big difference to the place we stay.
it might not be material to yourself.
but just by a simple action it would help...
why not..
just raise your hand and off the light for an hour?
i've checked the company's list...
whether my company is in the list of supporting the earthhour activity.
too bad it's not... even the other two big company i.e. P and K company is participating.

but based on t0m@k0's philosophy of if it is to be it's up to me...
i can spread the words through my blog...

if you do not intend to off your light.
just try to turn off those unnecessary lights
turn off your pc
turn off your aircon
turn off your TV

i think dun look down on this small deed.
it will help to contribute to a big deed.
cos if it is to be it will be all up to yourself.

reminder again..
to off your lights at 8.30 pm - 9.30 pm Saturday Nite. you can extend if you are happy ;)
Vote Earth...
Switch off whatever you can switch off...

VOTE EARTH

YOUR LIGHT SWITCH IS YOUR VOTE

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.

VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

Saturday, March 28, 8:30-9:30pm

Have you signed in to participate in earth hour?

Dear frens,

On Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 8:30 p.m. (Malaysian Time or you can choose at your local time), t0m@k0 will be taking part in Earth Hour, sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund. I’ll be joining tens of millions of concerned citizens and corporations in calling for action to save our planet for future generations.

I'm proud that I'm making a statement about the fight against climate change, and you can sign up to participate, too. You can learn more about Earth Hour at www.EarthHour.org, and you can sign up to participate at www.EarthHour.org/signup.

If you’d like a high level history of Earth Hour, more than 50 million people in 400 cities around the world took part in Earth Hour 2008. The lights went out at Sydney’s Opera House, Rome’s Coliseum, the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge and Even our very own KLCC and KL Tower and also Penang Bridge will go dark during the earth hour. Even the Google homepage went dark for the day. Many major corporations took part including HP, Coca-Cola, and Morgan Stanley.
This year, Earth Hour promises to be even bigger. In Malaysia, cities large and small have said they’ll participate including Kuala Lumpur with more signing on daily. They will join international cities such as Beijing, Cape Town, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, London, Manila, Mexico City, Moscow, Rome, and Toronto. You can view WWF’s video about Earth Hour 2009 at www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjWD8pbK5t8 to get a sense of the magnitude of this event.

I’m excited about Earth Hour and I hope you’ll join me in uniting with the world to make a difference for our planet. Don’t forget—March 28th at 8:30 pm, turn out, take action.

Thanks,

t0m@k0

10 Things a Company Can Do to Support Earth Hour

On March 28, 2009 at 8:30 pm, tens of millions of people around the world will turn out their lights for one hour — Earth Hour—to demonstrate their concern for our living planet and send a loud message to our leaders that they support action on climate change. Here are a few ideas for ways your organisation can support and publicise Earth Hour:

1. Hold a contest among employees with a prize for the best ideas for reducing waste and cutting energy consumption in your company’s daily operations.
2. Ask your business partners, suppliers and industry peers to support Earth Hour. Hang banners and posters so that your support is visible to all who enter your offices or buildings.
3. Turn your website “go black” during the week leading up to Earth Hour; make all white backgrounds black and all black text white. (Google did this in 2008!) Post a blurb about the event on your homepage that links to the Earth Hour home page.
4. Hold a company-wide event or celebration for employees the week proceeding Earth Hour and serve “green-themed” refreshments. Host an Earth Hour “lights out” party for your staff, customers and vendors on the night of the event. Be sure to turn out at 8:30 pm local time.
5. Schedule a meeting or send an email to employees from the Chairman or CEO explaining why the company is supporting Earth Hour and urge them to “turn out” at home. The entire executive team, including the CEO, should pledge to participate as well.
6. Create an Earth Hour section on the company intranet where employees can post ideas for celebrating Earth Hour and photos following up the event.
7. Hold employee contests with awards going to the staff member who recruits the most people to sign a pledge to say they will participate or who comes up with the most creative promotional idea for Earth Hour.
8. Ask the company cafeteria to hold a special candlelight lunch the week of Earth Hour, featuring dishes prepared using organic and sustainably products to remind employees about the event.
9. Create special TV, radio and newspaper ads to showcase your company’s participation in Earth Hour and to urge others to join.
10. Issue a news release and contact news media and radio stations and tell them what your company is doing to support Earth Hour and why.

the firm is taking some action on cutting cost.
Saving cost by using less dispatch and more on courier service which is much much more cost effective.

some how i think it’s good in a way that it create a win-win situtation or 双赢 situation for both client and us.
but i would wonder whether some would think it is troublesome.
sometimes i would think whether there is a necessary for us to send all the documents by hand since it’s so expensive.
and client might comment why you need to send by hand while you can send to me via courier.

in this economy down time people look at various way to cut their cost.
sometimes they like your service.
but they need to cut cost.
so they find various reason to say this is too high that is too high end up you will come to a situtation that you will loose the job.
